wood we use

We work only with reclaimed or FSCcertified woods.  It's really hard to find good sources that are truly finding salvaged or reclaimed wood, or good forestry people that are growing sustainable plantations with great biodiversity.  So frankly speaking, we are really quite pleased with ourselves for finding the sources that we have so far because its taken a hell of a lot of work.  From really unusual and highly figured slabs to giantroot balls, claro walnut, Indian rosewood, old growth redwood, ribbon wood, Cuban mahogany and more - if any of that suits your fancy, lets talk.  Welove to go in search of unusual slabs and types of wood to suit your needs/whim.

We primarily work with three main woods which are exclusively either reclaimed or from FSC certified forests, and we hand pick every slab ourselves for every single project.  We also post the majority of our slabs so you can pick your own slab for a project - here is the link to that page.

Here are the three main types of wood we work with:

Mango wood - this wood comes with a highly figured grain - all sorts of movement and color to it, and a medium to fine grain thickness, lighter in color and can be stained darker.  This can come in single slabs up to 30" wide quite consistently.

Monkeypod wood - this is a fast growing tree with a wide swirling grain and a light colored sap wood (sap wood is the outer edge of wood that is sometimes a different color).  This wood is a medium chocolate brown in color and can be stained darker, it also comes with cracks because of the wider grain, so we will often (or always, depending on what you like) use rosewood butterfly joints to re-enforce the cracks.  This wood also consistently comes up to 30-35" wide in single planks. Two examples here - first is the more typical wide grain monkeypod and the second is the more unusual crazy figuring monkey pod.

Teak - everyone knows what teak looks like - a finer straight grain, can be stained darker and does have a lighter color sapwood.  Teak typically comes in smaller widths of around 10-20" slabs as it is a fast growing tree and gets cut pretty quickly. (the mitered console below is out of teak)
